Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pyrotek's Procurement Agent (Buyer/Planner) is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company’s needs for indirect materials and services, tooling, select production materials and services.

  • Procure materials or other goods and/or coordinates activities involved with purchasing products and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising, for site.
  • Effectively communicate with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Ensure consistent material flow within the manufacturing facility including materials planning, scheduling, inventory management, and logistics process with lean manufacturing best practices.
  • Analyze demand data to determine optimal inventory levels and order quantities utilizing supply base and commodity specific knowledge.
  • Study market prices and trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, new or altered types of materials entering the market, engineering developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities to advise company activities.
  • Review and source to product specifications, maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased.
  • Ensure daily monitoring of material shortages with production and quality.
  • Determine method of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Work with manufacturers or persuade potential vendors to undertake the manufacturing of custom-designed items according to user's specific needs and specifications.
  • Prepare bid requests and review bid proposals for requested goods or services.
  • Negotiate prices, terms, and contracts with suppliers within budgetary limitations, recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintains close coordination with production to ensure timely execution of product.
  • Expedite orders and requests as needed.
  • Coordinate supply chain issues related to procurement, negotiations, logistics, replenishment analysis and achieving an overall level of customer service.

Qualifications

Education/Experience  Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business administration, economics or engineering plus two years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Core People Skills. Ability to positively interact and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization. 
  • Communication Skills. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen and obtain clarification, and respond well to questions. Proficiency in writing clearly and concisely and editing work for spelling and grammar. 
  • Computer/Applications Skills. Proficient computer skills using a variety of software applications systems. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Word, and Excel, and MRP planning and processing.
  • Core Business Skills.  Ability to work independently, without significant direction and to use resources effectively to “figure it out”. Exceptional prioritization, time management and organizational skills. 
  • Supply Chain/Planning: Knowledge of supply chain management, materials management and planning fundamentals, including operational management, purchasing, logistics, material requirements planning, inventory management, service scheduling and product/service design.  Strong negotiation skills, including ability to influence and persuade others, develop reasoned arguments, listen, and make decisions about how to allocate scarce resources. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain vendor relationships through exceptional customer service. Working knowledge of cost accounting and manufacturing methods and procedures.  Strong math, statistics and analytical thinking skills required.

Must be able to sit for long periods-of-time, bend and reach, use stairs, lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and communicate effectively in English by telephone, in person and in writing. Effectively use a personal computer, office equipment and telephone.

Working Environment
While performing the essential responsibilities of this position, team member generally will work in an office setting and in a manufacturing environment. While in manufacturing areas, the team member may also be exposed to moderate background noise, moderate amounts of airborne graphite dust, presence of natural and artificial light, exposure to work temperatures from ambient to controlled, hard surfaces for standing and walking. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
