Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm 

The Process Engineering Tech. is responsible for monitoring and improving manufacturing and engineering processes with a focus on support of Engineering, Operations and Product Development through monitoring and adjusting machine parameters, testing batch and product quality, fabricating developmental product samples, and maintaining equipment, process and batch logs.  Assists with existing product manufacturing plans and basic new product estimates.

  1. Daily monitors machine parameters, makes necessary adjustments, performs product batch and quality test.
  2. Responsible for identifying potential process and equipment improvements, actively designing and/or assisting with new product and process development, and maintaining new and existing product manufacturing masters and drawings.
  3. Regularly collect and evaluate process and product capability data, maintaining data logs. Determine causes of product, process and equipment failure and develop ways of overcoming such failure.
  4. Develop and maintain effective work instructions for various products and processes.
  5. As needed, train production operators on newly developed processes and procedures.
  6. Prepare and submit basic product quotes and drawings.
  7. Continuously maintains clean and safe office and work areas.
  8. Occasionally perform field work at customers and or travel to vendors for sourcing initiatives, approval, etc.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:  
Associates degree in a Materials Science and/or Engineering Field, plus a minimum of three years of experience with technical processes in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

A Ceramic Engineering degree and/or experience in ceramic fiber formulations, forming and fabrication processes is desired.

Valid driver’s license required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Computer/Applications Skills.  Proficient computer skills using a variety of software applications systems, including ERP (BOM’s Routers/Masters, Estimates), AutoCAD, Inventor or equivalent.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel. Ability to effectively use MS Office products, including Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Core Business Skills.  Ability to work independently, without significant direction and to use resources effectively to “mindfully problem solve.”  Strong observational, linear, and critical thinking skills, judgment and keen attention to detail and accuracy.  Exceptional prioritization, time management and organizational skills. Proficiency with documentation, including completion of work instructions, presentations, charts, and forms.

Engineering Technician.  Understanding of statistical analysis and Design of Experiment methodologies.  Proficiency with materials properties and testing using standard laboratory and materials testing equipment.  Understanding of processing fibrous materials and metals. Ability to accurately work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics.  Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawings and geometric tolerances.  Ability to effectively use and read measurements and engineering specifications.  Ability to safety and effectively use table saw and basic hand tools, including hammer, saw, wrench, etc.

Professional Investment.  Demonstrated commitment to own personal professional development and learning. 

Travel/Flexibility.  Ability to work a variety of shifts, including swing and graveyard as needed and travel domestically by land and air with overnight stays up to 5%.

While performing the functions of this position, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear and communicate effectively in English by telephone, in person and in writing.   At times be required to remain stationary, be mobile, bend and reach, use hands and fingers, and/or handle or feel.  Must be able to sit and or stand for long periods-of-time, use stairs, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and on rare occasions team-lift up to 100lbs.  Effectively use a personal computer, office equipment, telephone, and engineering calculator. Specific vision abilities require both up close and distant sight abilities. Requires traveling domestically by land or air up to 5%.  

Working Environment
While performing the essential responsibilities of this position, team member works within manufacturing and office environments. While in the manufacturing environment, team member is regularly exposed to noise, heat and/or cold environmental conditions where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
