Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Solve customer problems by providing services in thermal, thermal fluids and mechanical engineering to support capital equipment projects and oversee entire project cycle, including quoting, design, development, and project completion.  Provide customer service to include installation and start-up support and supervision of repairs or rebuilds at customer sites.

Engineering. Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.  Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Analytical Skills.  Ability to use information/data and various metrics to develop an informed and factual business case.  Strong financial analytical capabilities for developing profitable product strategies. Ability to define problems, collect objective data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Core Business Skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling of proprietary and confidential information. Qualifications

Must Haves: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) program with a minimum of 7 years of experience in capital equipment engineering and design. Experience in primary metals, foundries or other high temperature processing industries preferred.

Preference may be given to candidates with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) and senior-level engineers with experience leading projects developing solutions for furnace control and combustion equipment. Project Management Professional (PMP) and Professional Engineer (PE) designations and/or finite element analysis (FEA) and computation fluid dynamic (CFD) work experience a plus.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

1.       Lead custom capital equipment projects and design to solve problems for customers.

a.       Develop project schedule and identify project scope changes, complete required documentation and communicate changes as needed.

b.       Lead designers and engineers on projects to meet project goals.

c.       Manage project costs through standardized designs, production cost innovations, and designing for the manufacturing process.

d.       Review detailed drawings for accuracy and completeness to describe intended applications, specifications and build techniques for use on the production floor (design for manufacturability).

e.       Troubleshoot design/manufacturing issues internally or externally for projects that may arise.

f.        Write equipment manuals for all projects.

2.       Understand and support the plant Safety and Quality Policies and plant objectives.

3.       Research and analyze data for innovative design advances and technical solutions to customer problems.

4.       Work closely with Supply Chain & Planning departments to define long lead items, project schedules & supply pertinent information required for a successful project.

5.       Develop furnace refractory, insulation and heating designs to minimize heat loss in systems and maximizing efficiencies.  

6.       Supervise installations and provide technical support at customer sites. Up to 25% global travel may be required.

7.       Analyze thermal and thermal flow requirements through FEA or CFD for capital equipment.

8.       Collaborate and work with various internal and external Pyrotek stakeholders to identify new technologies to solve industrial furnace or equipment problems.

9.       Conduct FMEA’s and develop validation tests to mitigate Pyrotek risk, improve business performance and increase project success rate.

10.   Assist Pyrotek sales engineers in preparing and presenting technical solutions to customer’s problems.

11.   Create formal quote proposals for the sales team.

12.   Interface with the electrical controls department to ensure electro-mechanical interfaces are accurate.

Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts such as overhead cranes, vibration and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
