As an alternative to vertical direct chill billet casting, HDC billet casting is a continuous casting process wherein metal is fed to the casting moulds through a tundish, or headbox. Generally, the average HDC billet diametres are smaller than in VDC. Reducing downtime increases the length of each casting campaign and overall productivity.

Pyrotek solutions help HDC billet casters reduce downtime and improve productivity. We provide durable trough and launder refractory, precast tundish/headboxes, casting lubricants, machined header plates, cutting/saw oils, backup insulation, coatings, refractory preheaters and more.

Benefits include:

  • Improved output and reduced downtime
  • Customized solutions
  • Consistent metal quality
  • Reduced scrap
