Zinc's corrosion-resistant properties make it an ideal metal to protect buildings, vehicles, wire, nails and more. Much of the zinc produced is used to galvanize steel to increase its protective properties. According to the World Corrosion Organization, the estimated global cost of corrosion is USD$2.2 trillion. Galvanizing can help reduce that cost. The International Lead & Zinc Study Group forecasts that global demand for refined zinc will continue to rise.

Pyrotek offers performance improving products and systems for primary and secondary zinc customers and galvanizers around the world.

To help further improve costs and sustainability, Pyrotek's proprietary zinc-recovery system is designed to process dross and recover viable zinc metal that can be reused in an operation. The system is designed and built for dross volume producers, such as hot-dip galvanizers and continuous galvanizers.

At the heart of the system is a thermo-mechanical device able to separate free zinc from material mixtures and top drosses. It is a highly efficient in-house industrial system that recovers nonferrous metal from industrial process wastes and top drosses, including “rich wet” drosses, ash, dust and high-low melting metal mixes. The recovered zinc is both technically and commercially acceptable for reuse in the process, and any zinc-oxide residues can be sold.

Mechanical pumps offer a reliable and efficient way to transfer metal. Other products include troughs and launders, ingot moulds, refractory coatings, thermocouples and more.

Pyrotek's in-house zinc recovery system enables galvanizers to:

  • Reduce the volume of virgin zinc bought at market prices
  • Lessen their environmental footprint
  • Lower the volume of residual skimmings being disposed
  • Increase value of zinc-oxide skimmings that can be sold
  • Improve operator safety
