With modern casting techniques, solid metal is heated to liquid using complex melting furnaces. It's then transferred to a holding furnace before it is poured into a mould. Holding furnace design is dependent on many factors, including production requirements, heating sources and operating efficiency. Metal is typically prepared in the holding furnace for casting by additional skimming, alloy adjustment, ensuring proper bath temperature, providing a settling time for inclusions to settle or float, degassing to remove dissolved hydrogen and treatment with chlorine or refining agents to further improve metal quality and cleanliness.

Maintaining metal cleanliness and temperature is essential for producing high-quality cast products.

Pyrotek offers proven solutions for metal holding, including furnace cleaning tools to reduce oxide buildup, fluxing and degassing equipment, transfer ladles, furnace doors and hoods and other related materials and products.

Benefits include:

  • Increased metal quality
