The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for the defining, designing, and documenting packaging for Pyrotek products assigned USA and Mexico operations to optimize quality and cost.
Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering, plus two years’ experience in packaging design; or an engineering degree with four years experience in packaging design. Experience with DOT hazardous material packaging, placarding, and labeling regulations preferred.
Valid Driver’s License required.

Proficiency required in CRM, Visual, and IQM to lead resolution of customer cases and improvement initiatives, and support regulatory compliance.
Engineering. Knowledge and hands on application of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design of efficient packaging of products. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Ability to work with third party suppliers for items related to packaging and shipping, including but not limited to, materials, and equipment acquisition, and services.

Evaluate customer cases to identify packaging needs and prioritize projects aimed at reducing risk and increasing customer satisfaction while maintaining profitability.
Lead site warehouse teams with root cause assistance and corrective action identification for specific packaging issues.
Evaluate existing packaging processes and systems to identify new methods to reduce risk of in-transit shipping damage.
Review existing packaging procedures to identify improvement opportunities through reduction of error potential.
When identified, design and implement new packaging systems for existing products and new products to reduce risk of damaged, shipped product arriving at customer location.
Interact with sites, USA and local supply chain to identify third party suppliers for packaging systems to identify cost-effective, packaging solutions to support reduced shipping damage.
Work with packaging companies to test and evaluate optimum packaging designs for new and existing products.
Develop and maintain packaging standards for all USA and Mexico products.
Work with USA engineering and design teams in the design phase to develop and design packaging components and assemblies for new products and systems.
Provide timely internal reports and metrics to report on quality performance in relation to packaging issues.
Manage documents to meet quality system requirements as well as any federal, state, and local requirements.
Provide internal training for new packaging systems and ongoing refresher training to site warehouse teams.
Promote an atmosphere of quality improvement and safety and environmental compliance by working with the site teams and driving a behavior-based quality and safety culture characterized by accountability, commitment and teamwork.
As needed, assist site teams to complete hazard assessment analysis and follow-up activities for new packaging processes and to review existing processes for changes in equipment or new legal requirements.
Collaborate with USA Environmental Engineer to identify and evaluate new chemicals or waste streams introduced within a site from new or revised packaging designs.
As needed, identify SDS needs for new chemicals introduced through packaging sourcing, and provide SDS to USA Environmental Engineer.
Generally work in an office environment. Will be required to go onto plant floor occasionally as needs/issues arise where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required. Some travel may be required both domestic and international.
