Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Quality Manager focuses on strategic improvement and implementation of quality systems through oversight, analysis, evaluation, and critique of internal production processes.  Applies tools of quality and statistics to examine products and processes to determine their quality capability.  Engages with internal and external customers to gather and provide feedback for quality issues and expectations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate and improve quality assurance systems and quality control processes in all shop floor departments.
  • Work with purchasing and supply chain departments to set up and maintain supplier scorecards for key vendors as needed or at a minimum of monthly, and/or coordinate on-site supplier quality audits. Based upon scorecard results, take appropriate and timely mitigating action.
  • When quality issues are identified, collaborate effectively with Engineering department to review plans, change orders, and improve prints, instructions, and manufacturability of products.
  • Actively participate in production team meetings to improve processes to meet customer expectations.
  • Act as the final quality check for customer expectations and requirements.
  • Actively listen to expectations of customer needs of the product line and ensure specifications are translated to the respective areas/departments involved with the final product.
  • Engage with internal customers to gather product feedback as needed.  Respond to customers and sales engineers in a clear and timely manner for all quality related matters and customer complaints, communicate root cause and effective corrections.
  • Lead the site preparation and participation for internal and external ISO audits.
  • Provide support to the Quality Engineer and Coordinator when implementing corrective actions from ISO audits and customer complaints that support continuous improvement.
  • Develop new processes and systems for product manufacturing to ensure quality and successful implementation of new products against market and technical standards.
  • Supervise, coach support, train and develop personnel in assigned area; resolve personnel issues, redirecting complex issues to management and HR in a timely manner; directly manage team members, including assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance/compensation, resolving grievances, administering disciplinary action, interviewing employment candidates, and effectively recommending hires and terminations in a timely manner.
  • Ensure effective communication of goals, objectives and expectations throughout assigned department/team members. Maintain the cooperation and support of team members company-wide through effective interdepartmental communication.  Serve as a role model in areas such as professionalism, service orientation, agent of change, education, and commitment to organizational goals and objectives.
  • Foster attitudes, conditions and environments that guide your team toward excellence while acting with integrity and ethics aligned with Pyrotek core values.  Create a work environment that helps foster tolerance, acceptance and civility and the ability and desire of team members to act in empowered ways.  Actively reward / recognize team members to reinforce accomplishments and positive outcomes.
  • Determine the effectiveness of policies, procedures and projects/plans.  Take appropriate corrective measures when necessary. Identify new applications, innovations, quality and/or safety improvements and report findings/results to management. Ensure all activities and operations are performed in compliance with federal/national, state/regional and local regulations.

Qualifications

Education/Experience  Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business field, plus a minimum of five (5) years of quality control experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Past supervisory experience a plus.

Ability to develop team member skills and encourage growth, and to foster quality focus including improving product development processes and procedures.  
  • Computer/Applications Skills.  Proficient computer skills using a variety of software applications systems.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. Experienced in applying various RCA tools like 5-why, 8D, Pareto for problem solving.  Basic knowledge of statistical tools and their practical application.  Six-sigma yellow belt or higher preferred.  Knowledge of Lean preferred.
  • Analytical Skills.  Ability to use information/data and various metrics to develop an informed and factual business case.  Strong financial analytical capabilities for developing profitable product strategies. Ability to define problems, collect objective data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Core Business Skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling of proprietary and confidential information. Displays willingness to make decisions and work independently, without significant direction and to use resources effectively to “figure it out”. Strong critical and strategic thinking skills, judgment and keen attention to detail and accuracy. Exceptional prioritization, time management and organizational skills. Highly organized, detail oriented and self-disciplined.  Ability to make and implement firm decisions based on the needs of the business with other peers/departments.

Must be able to sit for long periods-of-time, bend and reach, use stairs, lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and communicate effectively in English by telephone, in person and in writing. Effectively use a personal computer, office equipment and telephone.  Exposure to airborne graphite dust. 

Working Environment
While performing the essential responsibilities of this position, team member generally will work in an office environment or on a manufacturing shop floor where PPE may be required.
